•It is a prepared environment set up to meet the developmental needs of the child aged 18 months to 3 years. As the adult perfects the environment the children perfect themselves.
•It is a toddler-directed environment which allows the child to explore purposeful activities in the areas of Sensorial Experiences, Independence, Practical Life, Art, Cooking, Language and Movement which includes song and dance.
•Toddlers are Sensorial learners exploring their world with their bodies. Our role is to bring the world to them and connect real sensorial experience with language. Listening to songs, joining in conversations, classifying objects are activities which nurture their budding language skills each and every day.
•The freedom to explore in a safe place is vital for the toddler who is trying to make sense of their world and begin to communicate their feelings and thoughts.
•Our Montessori toddler classroom offers the freedom to explore with the limits of respect for others and respect for the environment. As Montessori teachers, we will model and help foster in the child respect for each other and respect for the environment. We are to act as guides, respecting the purposeful work of the child with humility, patience and observation.
